Brett going to Taiji

My friend Brett Bradley from Brisbane is set on going to Taiji to help the dolphins. If you have seen The Cove, you know about the murders that he wants to stop. Brett has to use his own money to get there, so please help him out.

Xmas Dinner

Wed  14th Dec 11
The SeaS Gold Coast team met up for a Xmas dinner at Mandala Organic Arts Cafe. It was quite a good turnout, the vegan pizzas were awesome, and we even sold some tshirts. It was a great night.

AquaFest

While I was holidaying in Thailand, the SS-GC team helped at AquaFest, a local water-themed festival.

Cocktails With The Captain

Wed 16th November 2011
The highlight of the year for me was Brisbane's Cocktails With The Captain, in mid Nov. Captain Paul Watson came down and mingled with us all. He gave a very inspiring and awesome speech. Some special guests also came down, like the Irwin family and singer Xavier Rudd. The night was a huge success and an amazing amount was raised for Sea Shepherd.

Tsunami Fund Petition

I made a petition, please sign and share
www.thepetitionsite.com/

It's expressing anger over Japan's use of the tsunami- earthquake fund, to give $28 000 000 to the whalers. It's total madness. The government values killing animals over helping it's own victims.

Anti Whaling Day

Today was Worldwide Anti Whaling Day
Feel free to contribute here http://www.antiwhalingday.org/

In Dec, Japan will be heading back down to Antarctica, aiming for the maximum kill quota! The whalers have received a boost of $27 000 000 this year. Word is there will be an extra ship protecting the fleet too. It will be full on.
Of course Sea Shepherd will be down there doing everything we can to protect the whales. Captain Watson has declared this year's campaign 'Operation Divine Wind' - Kami Kaze the most dangerous ever. He has been saying 'hoca hey' (meaning 'it's a good day to die') in recent interviews, implying he and his crew are willing to risk their lives for the whales.
The true Whale Wars are about to kick off. Please do all you can to support Sea Shepherd. Donations would be awesome!

Sea Shepherd Halloween Party

Fri 28th Oct 11
On Friday night, we had our Spooktacular Sea Shepherd Halloween Party. It was really good, everyone dressed up, we had a DJ, plus cool raffle prizes eg 'JetSki Safari!'. We raised several hundred, which was amazing, considering not many people turned up. Everyone enjoyed themselved, and that's what really counts.

The DJs were brought to us by Foundation Events Empire. Thanks Simon
I met Death lol
Terri the founder and Carol a valuable volunteer.

Whale Watching

Sun 23rd Oct 11
Yesterday was our big day! Whale Watching with Sea Shepherd Gold Coast! We went out with Whales in Paradise and our supporters. It was a nice, warm spring day, everyone had an enjoyable time. Well maybe not the people who got sea sick lol. We sold some merchandise, signed up new subscribers, plus I did an informative speech. We saw a few whales, not as many as I hoped, then again it is almost the end of the migration season. Soon Operation Kami Kaze (Divine Wind) will kick off, down in the Southern Oceans.

Animal Action Day

Sunday 16th Oct
Animal Action Day is an annual worldwide event to raise awareness, appreciation and respect of all animals. The Gold Coast event was at Winders Park, in Currumbin. Sea Shepherd Gold Coast was invited to have a table there. A few of us went down. It was a sunny day and we had a beautiful location, by the river with paddle-boarders going past us.

The day was devoted to our endangered, almost extinct Aussie animal, the Bilby. Please read up about the Bilbies and help in any way you can.

By the way, Aquinas Surfing and Bodyboarding Annual has been postponed, due to bad weather.

Google+

As part of my seashepherd.goldcoast @gamil email account, I've signed up for Google+. Although my profile was empty, something like 30 people added me! Therefore I learned how to use Google+ and will start putting updates up. Apparently there is no worldwide Sea Shepherd group on there yet. That's why people from all over the world are adding me instead lol.
My first message was from a lady in Europe 'I've been waiting for you :)' awww

EarthDance Byron Bay

Sat 24th September 2011
I went to EarthDance, a small music festival in Mullimbimby near Byron Bay. It has been organised by Electric Forest and catering was organised by Sea Shepherd Byron Bay. EarthDance was really awesome, the music was good and attracted quite a crowd, the hippie people were all friendly, the the all-vegan food was yummy, omg cinammon lasagne! When we got tired, we sat by the fire. I finally met the Sea Shepherd Byron Bay team, really cool people, I'd say they are the strongest team in Australia!

White whale calf

A rare white whale calf, believed to be just a few weeks old, has been spotted off the Whitsundays coast in Queensland.
However it's impossible to tell yet whether the animal is related to the famous white whale Migaloo.

Ocean Giants

I've been watching a new tv series 'Ocean Giants'. It's really well made, with awesome info and beautiful cinematography. Try to find it if you can.

One of my favourite moments was when dolphins were exploring a mirror. They were very self-aware and interested in seeing themselves.

Migaloo2

Sunday 18th September 2011
Migaloo 2, a yacht bought to raise awareness on important issues facing whales, dolphins and ocean health, recently arrived to the Gold Coast. Crew members Dean Jefferys and Howie Cookie, from Surfers For Cetaceans, invited Sea Shepherd Gold Coast to attend a ceremony in the water. On Sunday morning, we all met up at the Migaloo 2, docked near Sea World, to create a Commemorative Circle for all the Dolphins killed and captured in Japan. The event was streamed live at http://migaloo2.com/  and even made the evening news! Afterwards, we all relaxed aboard the yacht and learned more about the Migaloo 2 campaign.

Dean Jefferys said “We are sailing along the east coast of Australia to Hervey Bay during the humpback whale migration visiting ports along the way showing films and giving talks about critical issues facing whales, dolphins and marine health. We also plan to do lots of live internet streaming from Migaloo 2 so the whole world including the Japanese can see what amazing beings the whales and dolphins really are".
